The Sundre Curling Club held its second annual open doubles bonspiel at the local rink on Saturday, Feb. 24, when 14 teams from Calgary, Airdrie, Didsbury and the community came to play, down only two from last year’s inaugural event, said Bev Konschuh, an organizer. Curlers of all ages came to enjoy some friendly competition and were each guaranteed three games with bragging rights on the line. The one-day bonspiel helped to accommodate the schedules of some people who cannot always commit to an entire weekend, and also offered players an opportunity to try the different style of curling involved in doubles, said Konschuh, adding organizers plan to proceed with the third annual next year. The club’s final event of the year, the open bonspiel, takes place towards the end of the month. Visit www.sundrecurlingclub.com for more information.
