A Sundre-area woman accused of impaired driving causing death has been ordered to stand trial.
Jennifer Black, 37, appeared in Didsbury provincial court last week, when through her lawyer she re-elected to have a preliminary.
Black was charged with 12 criminal offences following an April 2015 motor vehicle collision that claimed the lives of two local men and left another woman hospitalized.
Following the preliminary, the judge ordered Black to stand trial, but a date had as of last week not yet been set.
The RCMP's investigation following the crash determined that alcohol, speed and driver distraction were contributing factors to the crash. The injured passenger, a 50-year-old female from Sundre, sustained serious injuries, police reported at the time.
The deceased males were Perry Vollmer, 57, and Brian Schrader, 65, both from Sundre. They were in the rear of the vehicle and died at the scene, said police.
Black faces six counts of alcohol impaired related offences causing death and injury, three counts of dangerous driving causing death and injury, and three counts of criminal negligence causing death and injury.
A warrant for her arrest had been issued, and she turned herself in at the Sundre RCMP detachment within hours, said police, adding she was processed and released on conditions, including abstaining from alcohol. Her first court appearance was on Nov. 2 in Didsbury provincial court.
The collision occurred on April 5, 2015. At approximately 10 p.m., members of the Sundre RCMP detachment were dispatched to a single vehicle collision on Highway 22 near Twp. Rd. 340.
On arrival at the scene, the vehicle appeared to have left the highway, rolled and came to a rest upright. There were four occupants — two males and two females. The female passenger was ejected from the vehicle at the time of the collision and Black was found unconscious and still within the vehicle, said police.
She was transported by STARS air ambulance to a Calgary-area hospital, with the female passenger being transported by ground ambulance. Black had since recovered during the course of the investigation.
