Sundre High School's 47th May Queen has now drawn to a close.
It was another unbelievable year for the students of Sundre High! Students, staff, parents and community members worked together to raise $35,193. The money will be allocated to a variety of Sundre High Students' Union projects and activities in the coming year. The Grade 12s raised more than $12,000 to take top honours for their fourth consecutive year. The Class of 2016's win resulted in Kate Jackson and Ben McKinnon being crowned as May Queen and King for the 2015-16 school year. Congratulations to all students who worked during May Queen 2016 — this year's results were amazing and you have certainly made us proud!
May Queen is one of the most impactful activities our school does in the community. Although a large amount of funds are raised, May Queen is not just about money and competition. It's about a community working together to teach youth about desirable personal characteristics such as responsibility, commitment, initiative, leadership and respect. Our students are displaying this by donating a portion of this year's May Queen funds to the Canadian Red Cross in support of the Fort McMurray relief efforts.
