SUNDRE — The local library recently hosted a unique opportunity for anyone who was interested in observing the fascinating process behind a butterfly's growth cycle.

The program was made possible courtesy of the Mountain View Family Resource Network’s initiative called Caterpillar to Butterfly, in which painted lady caterpillars were hatched into butterflies.

The caterpillars lived at the library for the duration of their life cycle – from baby caterpillars to butterflies – where people of all ages were able to stop into the library to visit and watch them metamorphosize with an opportunity to be a part of the release.

The butterflies were then set free on the afternoon of Friday, June 24 at the Sundre Municipal Library during a release attended by several people.

This is the second year that family resource network has run the program with the library hosting the caterpillars, said Joy Willihnganz Sundre library programmer.

Visit www.sundre.prl.ab.ca for more information about upcoming events and activities at the local library.
