The Sundre Multi 4-H Club is having a good year so far.

We have 25 members this year participating in projects such as beef, sheep, horse and homesteading. Our club spent most of the first part of the year volunteering at various events such as the James River Community Beef Supper and the Sundre Hospital Futures Legacy Gala fundraiser. We also went around town with horse-drawn wagons and collected food for Sundre Santas. Thanks to the residents of Sundre, we were able to collect about 500 kilograms (1,100 pounds) of food to fill Christmas hampers for families in need.

Now that the holiday season is over, the club has been busy participating in many 4-H activities. Public speaking was held in January at Sundre High School. Everyone did an awesome job and the members that placed first and second moved on to area public speaking at the Eagle Hill Hall in February. From there, the winners then moved on to the district public speaking competition. On March 17, our club will be going to Olds College to take part in multi-judging, which like community service and public speaking are requirements within 4-H.

All of the members in our club have been working hard with their projects all year, too. The horse club has been on some rides and will soon be preparing for the District Horse Show, which is also their Achievement Day. Beef members had their weigh-in day at the start of November and will be bringing their animals at the end of March to a mock achievement day, when they will practise everything for the annual achievement day, which is otherwise known as the show and sale. The sheep members will be choosing their lambs right away and will have their weigh-in day towards the end of March. The homesteading project is new to our club this year and allows members to do various projects like sewing as well as different types of animals.

With all of the members busy with activities and project animals, the time will go by very quickly leading up to our 61st annual Show and Sale on May 28. This year, our club will have 20 finished steers and six lambs that we will show off in the ring all day and then auction off that evening. We would like to once again express our gratitude to everyone who purchased a steer or lamb last year, as well as all of our supporters — we greatly appreciate it!
