The president of the Sundre Hospital Auxiliary presented the family of the New Year's baby with several $250 gift certificates last week.

Vi Ellithorpe told the Round Up that the auxiliary, which also helps to raise funds to purchase equipment for the facility, began making the annual offering in 1969 following the hospital's opening the summer before.

The 2018 recipient, Abby Wu Tan, was born at the Sundre Hospital and Care Centre at 4:21 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 6 weighing in at 3.11 kilograms.

Mom Yanna Tan and her husband Dongnian “Tony” Wu — who several months ago arrived in Sundre from China to help relatives who own the Sundre Hotel, where they currently reside — happily welcomed their third child into the world.

Abby was born healthy and without complications. Yanna said the delivery went well, and she praised the kind care provided by the hospital's health-care professionals.

The couple also has a nine-year-old son named Koo Wu Tan as well as a two-year-old daughter called Yan Yan Wu Tan.

Although the family has not been in Sundre very long, Yanna said the experience to date has been quite pleasant. The mother of three likes being able to walk everywhere around town from the library to the grocery store, and has so far enjoyed her time in the community.

“The people are very nice.”
