LED lighting discussed
Sundre resident Ernie Nutting informed council during a delegation about the potential to upgrade municipal facilities with LED fixtures to reduce power consumption while improving lighting.
“There’s plenty of buildings that Sundre could benefit from our technology,” Nutting, who works with Switch Advanced Lighting Solutions, told elected officials.
Along with providing currently available light fixtures, the company can also manufacture custom-made designs, he added.
“If you need a light developed that isn’t already mainstream on the market, our company can do that.”
The Town of Sundre, which last year approved a provincewide FortisAlberta plan to install LED street lights, “is a lot more progressive than most,” he said. Council thanked him for the presentation and carried a motion to accept the proposal as information.
Fee waiver approved
Chief administrative officer Linda Nelson informed council that a request to waive the rental fee for the Sundre Community Centre was submitted by the local RCMP detachment’s Sgt. Jim Lank.
“The Sundre RCMP, community peace officers, agencies, Sundre Fire Department and emergency services will be hosting a regimental spring ball to take place on Saturday, May 5,” said Nelson.
“This is to recognize and celebrate the services provided by all of our professional and volunteer first responders,” the administrator said, adding, “They’re requesting a fee waiver of $338.21 for the use of the community centre.”
The event will also raise funds to support local community protective services such as Sundre Search and Rescue, victim's services, as well as the fledgling Sundre Citizens on Patrol Association.
Council unanimously carried a motion to approve the request.
Centre Street North to be discussed
Deputy Mayor Cheri Funke, who chaired the meeting in the absence of Mayor Terry Leslie, asked administration whether the Centre Street North project was properly completed and should be left alone, or what information might need to be conveyed to residents regarding any remaining work that needs to be done.
Nelson said the matter would be brought back for discussion during an upcoming meeting.
“We just want to make sure we get good solid information together,” said Nelson.
Operations manager Jim Hall reminded council that while the redesign of the road seems narrow, “it is legally the right width for two vehicles to pass.”
Traffic has also been calmed and snow removal has not been an issue, he said, adding the line painting this spring will assist as well.
