SUNDRE — A trial date has been set early next year for a local man previously described by police as a prolific offender.
Daniel Conway, a Mountain View County resident from the Sundre area, just this past January received a 57-day sentence along with a one-year probation and a 10-year firearm prohibition over a charge of assaulting a peace officer after reportedly driving toward a member of the Sundre RCMP detachment in a 2021 incident after initially attempting to evade Mounties.
Several other criminal and Traffic Safety Act offences were withdrawn, including: dangerous operation of a motor vehicle; driving without insurance; unlawfully setting a fire; breaking and entering a house with intent; and possession of property under $5,000.
A few months later, he was in late March apprehended by police and among other offences charged for allegedly uttering threats and breaching probation order, and soon afterward in April charged again after police reportedly found him in possession of a side-by-side that had recently been stolen.
In response to a follow-up question seeking an update on his recent court appearances, an Alberta Court Check clerk told the Albertan a trial date for Conway has been set for Feb. 16, 2023 in Didsbury provincial court
