Carstairs Beef & Barley Days a hit under hot conditions

Despite the hot weather, the stands were mostly full for the Crooked Horn Canadian Junior Rodeo at the Carstairs rodeo grounds

CARSTAIRS - The annual Beef & Barley Days in Carstairs was a resounding success July 19 - 21 over the weekend, with thousands of local residents and visitors attending events under very warm summer conditions.

The Carstairs and District Agricultural Society event included the ever-popular parade on Saturday morning – with the temperatures at kickoff already in the mid-20s – the pancake breakfast, the All Makes Car show, the Kids Zone with lots of outdoor activities, live music, artisan booths, concessions and food trucks, and other activities.

The church service in the park on Sunday was also well attended.

Society president Charlie Van Arnam said volunteers were once again at the core of Beef & Barley Days success.

“It went really well,” Van Arnam told the Albertan. “It was plenty warm. The parade was great and well attended. We had hundreds of people over at the Kids Zone and the market.

“There were lots of volunteers helping out again this year. It is so great to have their involvement.”

One of the highlights of the weekend was the parade through town, with several dozens entries, including horse riders, wagons, marchers, and others.

Despite the hot weather, the stands were mostly full for the Crooked Horn Canadian Junior Rodeo at the Carstairs rodeo grounds on Saturday afternoon.

As well as the ag society, other organizations and groups contributing in 2024 including the Lions Club, Carstairs Curling Club, the Carstairs Artists Guild, the Carstairs Chamber of Commerce, the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #53 in Carstairs and others.
