DIDSBURY - Didsbury RCMP has increased night patrols during the COVID-19 pandemic, with officers now working 12-hour shifts.
Staff Sgt. Chad Fournier said officers continue to be equipped with personal protection equipment to prevent COVID-19 infection.
“We try to limit the face to face contact,” he said.
Radio communication with neighbouring RCMP detachments has also been increased during the pandemic, he said.
During the May 12 Didsbury council meeting, councillors passed a motion recommending some RCMP priorities going forward: increased late evening and early morning patrols, increased traffic enforcement including speeding, and a focus on correcting poor driving habits.
Mayor Rhonda Hunter and several councillors commended local RCMP officers for their efforts during the COVID-19 pandemic.
"Thanks for all you are doing," said Hunter.
