The Innisfail Province wishes everyone in town, and across the region, including citizens in Penhold, Bowden, Spruce View, Pine Lake, Dickson and across Red Deer County, a safe and Happy New Year.

INNISFAIL – It was a huge year of transition for Innisfail. Not only did 2017 result in a change in council with four new members, but it will forge ahead with CAO Todd Becker, who arrived in August.

INNISFAIL – It was a community Christmas dinner with a saviour. Johns Manville held its second annual Family Christmas Turkey Dinner at the Innisfail United Church on Dec. 18. Everything was going smoothly when suddenly the power went out.

INNISFAIL - Seniors in Innisfail are taking up art in its many forms. A new program called Art Encounters 55+ is encouraging seniors in and around Innisfail to enjoy art, learn about art and participate in different art forms.

BOWDEN – Mayor Robb Stuart has no wish to be the Grinch, but he suspects the town will have to increase the tax rate this year, after deciding not to hike taxes last year. Stuart says financial reality may force that decision.

BOWDEN – Drug charges have been laid against two Bowden Institution inmates, along with one former offender, following a lengthy joint investigation by Innisfail RCMP and prison officials. On Dec.

DICKSON – The fall is a very busy time for the Dickson Store Museum when it hosts three events within a couple of months.

PENHOLD – The new year looks promising for Penhold residents. The town is starting 2018 with a balanced budget with a zero per cent tax increase. Penhold council held two budget meetings on Dec. 4 and 7.

PENHOLD – The town's new little free libraries are open for business. Stationed at Memorial Hall and the Seniors Drop In Centre, two brightly coloured boxes filled with books have been put into operation.

INNISFAIL – The sounds of Christmas rang out during the annual Inter-Church Christmas Musical at the Church of the Nazarene. Hundreds of visitors and concertgoers packed the church for two performances on Dec. 9 and 10.
