An application for a home business major licence in Linn Valley subdivision, north of Red Deer, was deferred by the municipal planning commission last week, pending further information. The office space is needed for a general contracting business and outdoor storage of equipment that would run Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., MPC heard.Four letters were submitted to the county explaining that too many home businesses are running out of Linn Valley, with heavy machinery being stored, and they didn't want to see another one set up in the area.Troy Corsiatto, who runs the business, spoke to the commission Tuesday morning and said there's been a misunderstanding about size.“I can assure you this business isn't as big as it sounds,” said Corsiatto, who added he was expecting to apply for a home business minor licence.Corsiatto said he has purchased land to store trailers but is currently using his home as the office to make some money before moving into a commercial building. Over the winter there were renovations to his home, with trucks coming and going, “which may have given my neighbours the wrong idea.”He said there is only his wife, himself and one non-resident working and there wouldn't be daily traffic to his house. He did say there is some equipment, such as a generator, which he would be looking to store at his house.Cynthia Cvik, director of planning and development services explained that the difference between a minor and major licence is if there is storage of equipment on the site, it becomes a home business major.Mayor Jim Wood said he felt an agreement could be worked out with staff on a possible short-term agreement for two years.Div. 4 Coun. David Hoar said he is not against the office facility but added: “I hope you can appreciate that just storing a generator can mushroom into a major storage operation.”
