Olds College's junior varsity basketball teams had mixed results on Jan. 23, despite each team playing in close games.

The Olds College futsal teams tuned up for the next Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference tournament by playing a set of games at Prairie Bible College in Three Hills on the weekend.

Rookie forward Chad Ziegler recorded a natural hat trick to lead the Innisfail Eagles to a 4ñ3 come from behind victory over the defending Allan Cup champion Bentley Generals.

The Olds College Broncos volleyball teams each suffered a pair of losses over the weekend, dropping the women to a 7-7 match record on the season, while the men are still looking for their first match win of the 2013-14 Alberta Colleges Athletic Conf

The Olds College Broncos futsal teams had a tough weekend at their opening tournament of the season from January 17 to 19, with a tie being the best result for the women's squad in Medicine Hat.

The basketball season is well underway at Sundre High School, with four teams busy practising and competing in games. The basketball coaches this year are residents within the community, rather than teachers at the school, said principal Jason Drent.

After a tough 2-1 overtime loss to the Canmore Eagles on Jan. 17, the Olds Grizzlys rebounded with a 5-2 win over the Bonnyville Pontiacs the next night at the Olds Sports Complex.

The Olds College women's basketball team went on a three-game winning streak on the weekend, improving its record to 5-9 on the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference 2013-14 season.

Due to the success of hosting the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference curling championships in March 2013, Olds College has won the right to host the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association championships from March 24 to 28, 2015.
