From long country drives on frozen nights travelling to unassuming rinks, to tussles and lineup changes on the ice, to bull sales and volunteer events off the ice, it was a long road to the provincial championships for the Innisfail Eagles.

The Sundre-based Mountainview Taekwondo club is celebrating its 20th year. The club, consisting of about 30 members aged four and up, scored several medals during tournaments last month.

There was just as much jubilation as feelings of relief flowing from the Olds midget A Grizzlys on March 29 when they clutched the Central Alberta Hockey League championship from the hands of the Vulcan Hawks with a score of 4-3.

The Innisfail Skating Club celebrated the conclusion of its 49th season with its annual ice show on March 16.

New and seasoned lacrosse players from Innisfail will hit the floor beginning April 2 at the Bowden Igloo. This year, with 90 registrants, the Innisfail Minor Lacrosse Association has enough players to enter a team in every division.

The Olds midget A Grizzlys are provincial champions after beating Beaumont 5-1 in the final at the tournament held March 21 to 24 in Vermilion. "We just really came together. We had some pretty high expectations,î said coach Joel Hunter.

The Olds midget B Grizzlys had a tough time of it at the provincial tournament over the weekend of March 23 and 24 in Provost, finishing with a 0-2-1 record.

The coach of the Olds College women's varsity basketball team has decided to turn in his clipboard after leading the Broncos to a bronze-medal finish at the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association tournament from March 14 to 16.

The Innisfail Bantam Female Flyers claimed gold at the Hockey Alberta provincial championship in Cold Lake March 14-17.
