MOUNTAIN VIEW COUNTY - Sean LaBrie, one of two candidates seeking election in the Oct. 16 Mountain View County byelection, says if elected he plans to work closely with his fellow councillors.
LaBrie and Tiffany Nixon are seeking election in Division 4 to replace former councillor Gord Krebs. Advance polls in the byelection take place on Oct. 9 and Oct. 10.
The byelection is LaBrie’s second election campaign - he faced off against Krebs in the 2021 municipal election.
“I don’t have a specific agenda,” LaBrie told the Albertan. “I want to hear from the folks in the division and in the county and I want to know what their concerns are. We all have work as a team to get things done for the county.”
LaBrie is a cow-calf operator who lives on a farm near Westerdale Hall in Division 4.
He said if elected he would work to get the county to have more say on how taxpayers’ money is spent.
“I’d like to see the county push the provincial government a little bit more for some autonomy within the county,” he said. “I think the dollars can be spent better by the local government; it doesn’t have to be filtered through the provincial government.”
He says his eight years on the county’s agricultural service board, as well as volunteer work in the community, has taught him the importance of teamwork, something he hopes to bring to his position on council.
Division 4 serves Elkton/Rugby, Westcott, parts of Fallentimber, Bergen, Harmattan and Westerdale.
The next general municipal election is scheduled for October 2025.
