A one-year-old steer named Uno belonging to 11-year-old Annelise Corbett was the big winner at the Eagle Beef and Multi 4-H Club achievement day held at the Cow Palace in Olds on May 13.

Uno, weighing in at 1,369 pounds or 621 kilograms was the event's Eagle champion and was sold to Pengrowth Energy Corporation for $3.50 a pound.

Annelise lives just west of Bowden.

The reserve grand champion steer belonged to Brandt McLean, 14, of Eagle Hill and weighed 1,245 pounds or 565 kilograms.

The steer sold for $2.10 a pound to the Olds Mountain View Veterinary Centre.

Overall, 10 steers made an appearance at the event— with seven animals destined to become beef while three were resold— and roughly 100 people came to the Cow Palace throughout the day for a showing and sale.

The club has held the achievement day event for 53 years.
