OLDS — If you see a fire in the area of 54th Street and 52nd Avenue,today -- Saturday, July 9 -- don’t be alarmed.
The Olds Fire Department plans to conduct a controlled burn at 5223 54th Street.
During that period, signs will be placed along the road indicating that fire training is occurring there.
As part of that training, residents might see black smoke emanating from the site.
“There is no need to report or call it in,” a Town of Olds news release says.
“Over the past several months, firefighters have been using the property to work on several objectives, including effective communication, implementation of proper safety protocols, deployment of equipment and manpower and protection of the community and environment,” the release adds.
Olds firefighters are grateful to the Olds Regional Exhibition for their continued support, including the donation of property for the training.
