Bowden council has agreed to designate a 2,800-square-metre parcel of green space on 22 Avenue for a potential skateboarding park.
The Bowden Recreation and Culture Board and the Bowden Agricultural Society have teamed up to develop a skateboarding park for the community and the groups have formed a Skate Park Committee to oversee the project.
The groups are looking to set up a 50-50 fund-matching agreement with Let Them Be Kids, a Canadian volunteer organization that helps communities and organizations build recreation areas for children, and Andy Weiss, the town's chief administrative officer, told council at its April 8 meeting that having green space set aside for the skateboarding park would help the committee secure grants for the project in the future.
Mayor Robb Stuart said he felt the parcel of land the committee requested is a “good location” and council unanimously agreed to set it aside for the skateboarding park.
According to a town staff report, the committee will move forward with fundraising activities for the skateboarding park project regardless of whether Let Them Be Kids chooses to help with the project.
