The Town of Olds has hired a new manager for Nu-2-U to replace Pat Ingham who left for Red Deer last year.
Barbara Adair will take up her new position, leading volunteers in the managing of the store.
Michelle Honeyman, manager of community development for the town, who helped select Adair, said Adair has a lot of retail experience and should benefit Nu-2-U going forward. Honeyman said while finding a local person wasn't one of the criteria the town looked at when conducting the hiring process, it is nonetheless an asset.
"It wasn't necessarily a criteria. I think that was an added bonus for us that she is local and she does know a lot of people,î she said.
Barbara Hill, director of community services, said she is pleased that the town was able to find a local resident to take over management of the store and believes that Adair will continue the excellent operation of the shop.
"It was an excellent year at the store. Again, the community has supported the objectives of the store, which are to make sure that we have goods for people in the community that might not be able to shop at other stores, so there's always reasonably priced goods for people in the community. We have a really active program where the surplus of the proceeds from the store are going to support community organizations,î she said.
