Warm and dry conditions have sparked scores of wildfires throughout the area in the past two weeks, including this blaze west of Olds near the intersection of Regional Road 21 and Township Road 324 on the afternoon of May 6. The fire brought out fire crews from Olds, Didsbury, Carstairs and Sundre.

The Town of Olds has issued a fire ban for the community effective May 8.

The ban includes open fires, charcoal briquette barbecues, campfires, cooking fires, burning barrels and the discharge of fireworks.

Cooking and heating appliances fueled by natural gas are not covered under the ban.

Anyone who sets a prohibited fire will be responsible for paying the costs of having the blaze put out.

The ban was put in place due to dry conditions in the area and comes on the heels of a Mountain View County ban that came into effect on May 6.

Fire crews throughout the region, including the Olds Fire Department, have responded to dozens of fires since the beginning of the month, including grass fires and agricultural waste burns that have gotten out of control.
