Olds College was honoured with three Association of Canadian Community Colleges awards for excellence, including two gold and a bronze, at a ceremony in Penticton, B.C. over the weekend.
Awards were handed out in six categories between June 1 and 3 and the association represents 168 post-secondary schools.
Gordon Gilchrist, a faculty technology mentor at the college, was the gold award recipient for the Teaching Excellence award for his “progressive approach and leadership styles with peer support that affects the entire College community,” a college media release states.
“With a progressive approach to education delivery with its iPad and Entrepreneurship App, Gordon is helping lead the evolution of education at Olds College,” the release states.
Jordan Cleland, the college's vice-president of advancement, was awarded gold for Excellence in Leadership.
“Cleland has developed a strong team that have undertaken the task of celebrating 100 years of history as Olds College celebrates its Centennial with a full slate of events in 2013. These events are showcasing our legacy, values and the unique value proposition of an Olds College education,” the release states.
And outgoing Students' Association president Darryl Power received the bronze award in the Student Leadership Award of Excellence category.
“As a student ambassador and College advocate, Darryl played a key role in student focused initiatives and concepts that reinforced the College's standing with key stakeholders,” the release states. “Darryl's leadership has and will continue to serve him well as he embarks on his career path.”
