A 53-year-old man from the Olds area was killed in a head-on collision on July 2 east of the intersection of highways 2 and 27.

Olds RCMP said an eastbound pickup truck attempting to make a northbound turn from Highway 27 onto Rge. Rd. 10A collided with a motorcycle heading westbound on Highway 27 at about 6:45 p.m.

The driver of the motorcycle, who police said was from the rural Olds area, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The pickup truck's driver, a Sylvan Lake woman born in 1949, is charged with turning left when unsafe to do so.

She was taken to the Olds Hospital and Care Centre and treated for minor injuries.

Staff Sgt. Joe Sangster, commander of the Olds RCMP detachment, declined to provide the woman's name saying she had “been through enough.”

According to an obituary published in the Calgary Herald, the man who was killed was Kenneth Albert Degoesbriand.

A funeral for Degoesbriand was scheduled to take place in Calgary on July 8.
