Police are asking for the public’s help in tracking down a man accused of robbing the TD Canada Trust bank on 50 Avenue on June 4.
Cpl. Jay Peden, a spokesman for the Olds RCMP, said a man described as white and in his 30s entered the bank at about 3:15 p.m. and demanded cash from a teller.
The suspect received an undisclosed amount of money and fled the bank on foot.
Peden was unable to confirm reports the suspect told the teller he had a weapon.
The suspect was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and sunglasses and police are asking anyone who witnessed anything suspicious in downtown Olds at the time of the robbery to contact the Olds RCMP at 403-556-3323 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
Police could be seen entering several businesses neighbouring the bank such as A Gallery of Floors, Nutter’s Bulk and Natural Foods and Shoppers Drug Mart following the robbery.
One business told the Olds Albertan police were asking for any surveillance footage from the time of the robbery and Peden said making inquiries at neighbouring businesses is a normal part of such an investigation.
One officer was observed talking to a young man on a bicycle wearing a black hooded sweatshirt on 51 Street shortly after the incident at the bank took place.
The officer searched the young man’s bag and then allowed the man to leave.
Several customers leaving the bank after the incident said they did not see or hear anything at the time of the reported robbery.
Peden said no one was injured during the robbery and members of Chinook Arch Victims Services attended to the bank to assist anyone in need.
