The provincial government has moved forward with plans to make impaired drivers pay ever-higher prices for their law breaking. The province’s new Reduce Cannabis and Alcohol Impaired Driving Act comes into effect this month.

The recent British Columbia provincial budget makes it clear that the government is forging ahead with plans to pursue universal government-subsidized daycare. But B.C. is not the first to go down this path and there are lessons to be learned.

For the tax-and-spend NDP, enough is never enough. That is the underlying message in Finance Minister Joe Ceci’s third provincial budget introduced in the legislature last week. Taxes? Too low. Spending? Too low. Debt? Too low.

Re: “Crime fight money welcome,” p. 3, March 13 Gazette. While I applaud MLA Jason Nixon and the scores of others concerned with the escalation of rural and backcountry crime in Alberta, I believe an additional priority should have been made.

Well, at least our premier no longer thinks us Albertans are like an embarrassing cousin no one else in that otherwise good and glorious Canadian family wants to mention.

The number 1 concern I hear from people across Olds-Didsbury-Three Hills is the rising tide of rural crime. When it comes to addressing this issue, the solutions are readily apparent.
