SUNDRE — Flood warnings have been issued for the Red Deer River and Little Red Deer River basins as a significant rain fall is expected to bring upwards of 150 millimetres of rain to central and south Alberta over the next three days, officials said Monday.

The Alberta Rivers Forecasting Centre issued the warnings based on river levels and the precipitation forecast for this week.

Flood warnings have been issued for the Red Deer River upstream of Burnt Timber Creek, the Red Deer River from Burnt Timber Creek to Gleniffer Reservoir, and the Little Red Deer River.

Flood watches have been issued for the Bearberry Creek, Fallentimber Creek, James River and Raven Rivers.

High streamflow advisories have been issued for the Medicine River and the Red Deer River from Dickson Dam to the Saskatchewan border.

Water levels rising between two and 3.5 meters are possible.

Mountain View County says it will update the alert as new information becomes available.

Flood warnings dictate that people in low-lying areas around the impacted rivers be prepared to evacuate on short notice.

Residents in the potentially affected areas who have livestock or moveable property items are advised to relocate them to higher ground.

During a press conference on Monday, Sundre-area MLA and Minister of Environment and Parks Jason Nixon says he has been in contact with Town of Sundre and Mountain View County officials regarding the possible flooding situation.
