SUNDRE — The municipality has decided to retain the services of an assessor administration considers reliable and responsive.

Chris Albert, the town's director of corporate services, informed council during the regular April 25 meeting that the municipality’s contract with its assessor expired in early May.

“We did put out a request for proposal, which is a best practice when a contract is expiring,” said Albert, adding the deadline to submit proposals was March 18.

“We only got two submissions – one from our current provider, one from another.”

Administration assessed both of the submissions, with the existing contractor coming out on top, he said.

“We are very, very happy with our current provider,” he said. “They did score extra points because they do go above and beyond for us. They are very responsive to our residents.”

So, despite a minor cost difference between the two proposals, he said administration felt potentially giving up the existing assessor’s responsive service was not worthwhile.

Plus, the municipality has dealt with the assessor – Wild Rose Assessment Services Inc. – for 20 years, he added.

“After evaluating both packages, we are requesting that council support Wild Rose Assessment,” he said. “This is included in our operating budget.”

Without any further council discussion, two motions were unanimously carried – one to support the selection of Wild Rose for a three-year term from May 1, 2022 to April 30, 2025 with two optional two-year renewal terms, followed by another to appoint Kevin Bohlken of Wild Rose as the municipality’s designated officer to perform the town’s assessment duties. Coun. Chris Vardas was absent.
