Town of Sundre receives a clean audit

Price Waterhouse Cooper LLP representatives did not find any red flags in Town of Sundre's financials

SUNDRE — No glaring red flags were found by an auditor in the town's 2021 financial statements.

Council heard during a council meeting last month from the municipality’s auditor, Price Waterhouse Cooper LLP, that Sundre had a largely clean audit. Angela Loo, partner with PWC, was joined by Joy Dutta, manager, who remotely conducted their presentation.

“We are happy to report we did not note any unadjusted items in the financial statements, nor did we identify anything that has to be adjusted due to financials either,” said Loo, calling the document “a very clean audit with respect to any errors.”

Mayor Richard Warnock thanked the presenters for a concise as well as easy-to-follow report, and turned to his council colleagues to ask if there were any questions about the auditor’s report.

The document is available in full on the municipality’s website, www.sundre.com, by clicking on “Council” under the main homepage’s “Your Government” tab and then selecting “Meeting Minutes and Agendas” where the April 25 meeting’s documents can be downloaded.

In the absence of questions, council then carried a motion to enter into a closed meting with Loo and Dutta that lasted about 15 minutes.

Upon returning to open session, Chris Albert, director of corporate services, said he had no further comments about the audit, but echoed the mayor’s praise for the auditors.

“Even though we butted heads a little bit over the year, it has been a great experience,” Albert said with a chuckle, adding, “It’s one of the best ones I’ve gone through.”

The next matter of business was for council to officially accept all of the auditor’s 2021 reports.

“The audit report, the audited financials and the financial information return are all required and regulated reports,” said Albert.

“Most of the information in them, council has received through quarterly reporting. So, unless council has any specific questions about the financial statements themselves, I think we can go right to the motion.”

Council went on to unanimously accept the all of the auditor’s documents as presented, and further directed administration to forward said documents to Municipal Affairs as per the Municipal Government Act. Coun. Chris Vardas was absent.
