The Olds Farmers and Farmerettes bonspiels do a great job of bringing rural people and town residents together, thereby building a stronger community overall.

LACOMBE - The Innisfail Eagles are down but not out. The Birds now trail 2-0 to the Lacombe Generals in the best-of-five Allan Cup Hockey West League finals.

Abby Webster, a forward with the Olds College women's hockey team, is getting ready to face off in the Canada Winter Games as a member of the Northwest Territories team. Their first game is Feb. 24 versus P.E.I.

Olds High School teacher Wanda Vandervelden has been chosen to referee the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) national women's basketball championship. It takes place March 13-16 in the Quebec City suburb of Sainte-Foy.

Olds Grizzlys player Jay Thomson has made the Inter Pipeline AJHL All-Academic team.

The 39th annual Farmers and 36th annual Farmerettes bonspiels are over for another year. Thirty-four men’s rinks and 16 ladies rinks competed at the Olds Curling Club from Feb. 12-16. Both bonspiels were another great success, organizers say.

Former Olds Grizzly Jeremy Klessens has been named the Canalta Alberta Junior Hockey League (AJHL) Player of the Week. Klessens, who now plays for the Drayton Valley Thunder, accumulated nine points (2G, 7A) in two games during the week of Feb.

Seven awards were presented during the Olds Grizzlys' awards banquet and two players got two of those awards each. Duncan Hughes was named Most Valuable Player and Noah Kimmel won the Player's Choice Top Teammate award.

The Olds High School boys' curling team won a silver medal during zones. Coach Jason Jackson says they're the first OHS curling team to medal in the South Central zone since 2015. Unfortunately that's as far as they can go.

Mountain View County council has agreed to match all community contributions made to the new Rotary Athletic Park by Dec. 31 this year to a maximum of $1 million. Council passed a motion to that effect Wednesday, Feb. 13.
