Olds resident Zachary Latimer, a previous two-time Canadian Junior national bronze medallist, won the best junior male weightlifter title at the Ogopogo open weightlifting contest near Kelowna last month.

An Olds youth has signed on with the Lethbridge Hurricanes of the Western Hockey League. The team announced last week that they had signed forward Jett Jones to a standard WHL player agreement. Jones, 16, was undrafted.

Local teen Keegan Hodgson, 13, took to the waves this year and began competing in surfing competitions and had a successful first year. Keegan only began surfing in 2016 after his family decided to buy a boat.

The Sundre Bison have since the beginning of last month been getting ready for the upcoming start of the Mountain View 9 Man Football Conference’s season. The team’s first game is scheduled for this Saturday, Sept.

CARSTAIRS - The Carstairs Memorial Arena will be busy this week as both the WHL Calgary Hitmen and Junior A Olds Grizzlys play exhibition games in town. The Hitmen host the Edmonton Oil Kings on Sept. 8 at 7 p.m.
