INNISFAIL - Four-peat league champions the Innisfail Cyclones began their new season with a crushing victory over the Sundre Bison. The local 9-man football team downed Sundre 78-0 in their season opener on the road on Sept. 8.

INNISFAIL - The 32nd Annual Innisfail Pro-Am golf tournament is in the books with Calgary players taking home both the top team and individual honours. Most importantly for the Innisfail Golf Club, the one-day tournament on Sept.

DIDSBURY - Essentials for our Community Didsbury is hosting a charity 10K run on Sept. 22. The event will start with registration at 9 a.m. and the run will begin at 10 a.m.

DIDSBURY-CARSTAIRS - Minor hockey kicked off on the Sept. 7-9 weekend in Didsbury with a three-on-three tournament. There were six novice (seven- and eight-year-olds) and six atom (nine- and 10-year-olds) competing in the event.

CARSTAIRS - The recent Calgary Hitmen exhibition game at the Carstairs Memorial Arena attracted more than 1,000 spectators, all in support of STARS air ambulance.

Olds College has beefed up its women's volleyball team with a couple of recruits from Saskatchewan. They are Emily Zaleschuk of Wakaw and Janeen Pellatt of Yorkton.

Local lacrosse player, Liam Steele, 11, recently returned from Oakville, Ont., where he earned second place as a part of the Calgary Junior Roughnecks in the peewee division of the sixth annual Junior NLL (National Lacrosse League) tournament.

The annual Olds Terry Fox Marathon of Hope to raise money for cancer research via the Terry Fox Foundation takes place this Sunday, Sept. 16.

The Olds Grizzlys will hold their home opener against the Calgary Mustangs on Friday, 7:30 p.m. at the Sportsplex. That will kick off what the team hopes to be a playoff season.
