Rope skipping is more than a schoolyard activity for children. It's also a sport that has its own sanctioning bodies at the provincial, national and international levels.

Reg Carrick doesn't count the medals when asked to sum up his coaching career. He has more important things on his mind. Carrick just ended his sixth and final season as head coach of Olds College's women's basketball team.

Olds College's men's basketball team went two-and-out at the ACAC championship over the weekend, finishing without a medal at the playoff tournament, which they hosted.

Local boxer Anthony Walsh won his second gold medal in a month at the Golden Gloves competition. Walsh, 14, competed in the 66-kilogram weight class and won his only fight by technical knockout during the tournament, held Feb. 27-28 in Stony Plain.

Olds' Bryce Sweetman has been drafted by the Rockyview Knights senior lacrosse team. The Knights play in the Rocky Mountain Lacrosse League's senior B division and selected Sweetman 24th overall.

The Sundre tier 3 midget Huskies have made it through to the North Central Minor Hockey Association's league championship final after beating Rimbey in the second round of playoffs last week.

It's time for the big show by the Innisfail Skating Club. The 52nd annual Ice Show is set for this Saturday, March 12 at 2 p.m. at the Innisfail Arena and will feature a variety of individual and group performances.

The Broncos men's basketball team was eliminated from medal contention at the ACAC Championship in Olds on March 3, falling 99-81 to the NAIT Ooks.

The Innisfail Midget A Flyers are moving on to the semifinals in the Central Alberta Hockey League playoffs. The flyers swept the Medicine Hat Hounds 2-0 in the best-of-three quarter-final series, winning Game 1 at home 2-0 on Feb.

Innisfail and area skaters will have an opportunity to learn from one of Canada's best during a one-day workshop in early March. Ben Ferreira is a three-time Canadian national medallist, including the 2004 Canadian Senior Men's silver medallist.
