Results for the three teams in the Mountain View Lacrosse Association were mixed over the past week or so. The Mavericks won both their games.

INNISFAIL – After more than 30 years Innisfail horseshoe players will be pitching their final season and holding their last tournament in its current long-standing location.

CARSTAIRS - Track and field athletes from Hugh Sutherland School (HSS) in Carstairs had a field day on May 15 at the Chinook's Edge divisional senior high track meet held at Westglen School in Didsbury.

DIDSBURY -- The Didsbury Jetz softball program is off to a good start with several teams performing well in league and tournament play. Jen Dawson, Jetz organizer, said the program has seven teams operating this year.

A big opportunity has presented itself to local Olds hockey player Avery Trotter as he was drafted by the Spokane Chiefs in round five (103 rd overall) in the WHL Bantam Draft.

Three Olds teams in the Mountain View Lacrosse Association are off to different starts, but manager Gary Gaudette and player-coach Andy Sweetman are optimistic all three will do well over time this season.

The Olds Gymnastics Club is moving — again. Later this month, they plan to move into a building in the 4200 block of 46th Avenue in an area zoned for light industrial activity.

Local baton twirling athletes and teams got everything from bronze to gold medals and an assistant coach was named Rookie Coach of the Year during the 2019 Alberta Baton Twirling Championships, held May 3-5 at the Ralph Klein Centre.

The team of James McDonald, Justin butt, Allan O'Brien and Nicole Schultz won the B&M Home Hardware Olds Member/Guest team scramble at the Olds Golf Club May 11 with a score of 57, or 15 under par.
