A moving tribute was paid to local athletes Ryan McBeath and Graysen Cameron, as well as Logan Boulet, during the home opener of the Stingers lacrosse game versus the Rockyview Rage Friday night.

CARSTAIRS-CREMONA-DIDSBURY -Several badminton players from the area had some great success at the recent Chinook's Edge School Division badminton championships in Olds, with four players qualifying for zones.

Doing any one thing for over 70 years is an impressive feat and that is true for Olds resident Ken Gillrie, 89, who has been curling for 73 years. Gillrie has been curling since 1945 and grew to love it for not being as rough as a sport like hockey.

Olds and District Special Olympics (ODSO) has received a cheque for $5,000, proceeds from the annual Shaggin On Sno ball slo pitch tournament. This year's edition of the tournament was held March 17 and 18 at O. R. Hedges Park.

PENHOLD – International hockey is coming to Penhold. The town will join Edmonton, Red Deer and Sylvan Lake in welcoming international hockey players for the first Hlinka Gretzky Cup this August.

The finals of the 2017-18 Mountain View Junior Cowpoke Rodeo are scheduled to take place at the Raecer Arena east of Sundre on April 21. The daylong rodeo will wrap up what has been a well attended and exciting season.

INNISFAIL – The second annual Innisfail Middle-High Badminton Invitational Tournament was another success. The two-day event, hosted by Innisfail High School, ran April 6 from 4 to 9 p.m. and April 7 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Brittney Thibeaux and Linden Jackson were named overall athletes of the year during the annual Olds College Broncos awards night April 4. Thibeaux had one of the most dominant seasons in Broncos history.

DIDSBURY - Young baseball pitchers – male and female – will be able to hone their skills with a couple of upcoming pitching clinics being held at the Didsbury Curling Rink.

CREMONA - The Cremona Skating Club recently celebrated 30 years in style by hosting one of its best carnivals yet called 30 Years of Skating Fun.
