An Olds youth was drafted during the Western Hockey League (WHL) Bantam Draft in Red Deer May 2. Avery Trotter, a defenceman, was drafted in the fifth round, 103rd overall, by the Spokane Chiefs. He stands 6-1 and weighs 163 pounds.

The Sundre Soccer Club’s season is off to a good start, although the recent weather has somewhat hampered play.

The Olds Bantam and Midget Stingers lacrosse teams both won gold during a tournament in High River April 26-28. Both teams won all three preliminary games, thereby earning berths in the finals.

Sundre Minor Hockey Association is potentially at risk of dissolving. Following the organization’s annual general meeting, the group was unable to secure enough volunteers to establish an executive to ensure the program’s sustainability.

INNISFAIL – It didn’t feel like spring, but that didn’t stop hockey enthusiasts from participating in the Dean Turnquist Spring Fever Road Hockey Tournament. The 24th annual event took place at the Innisfail Arena on May 4.

Dozens of participants from Innisfail and surrounding communities across Central Alberta, took part in the 24th annual Dean Turnquist Spring Fever Road Hockey Tournament on Saturday (May 4).

Members of Special Olympics Olds & District, the Olds College Broncos, Olds firefighters and Olds RCMP played a kind of exhibition game on April 25 at the Frank Grisdale Hall gym on the Olds College campus.

Five Olds Grizzlys peewee AA players have been chosen to play on the south black team in the Peewee Prospects Cup which takes place May 8-12 in Lethbridge. They are Drew Williamson, Walker Overwater, Emmett Barnett, Ryan Seeley and Tristan Visser.

The Bicisport Cycling Club is opening its 2019 season with two races in Olds and area. The Hay City Road Race will take place May 4 near Eagle Hill. And a criterium will be held May 5 in the southwest industrial park.
