The Olds Mavericks were frozen 9-2 by the Calgary Chill June 9 in Calgary. During the first period, the Mavericks made several plays that could have resulted in a goal but unfortunately, they turned up short, with the Chill scoring the lone goal.

Olds and area residents have until 4 p.m. June 30 to nominate someone to participate in the torch relay for the 2019 Canada Winter Games. The Games take place in Red Deer Feb. 15-March 3, 2019. The torch is scheduled to go through Olds Jan. 31.

DIDSBURY - A small group of dedicated parents is hoping to "save" the Didsbury Dragons 9-man football team in time for this coming season.

Several competitors from the district will be taking part in the upcoming Alberta Equestrian Vaulting Association (AEVA) Canadian Nationals meet in Ponoka on July 13-15. Qualifying for the World Equestrian Games (WEG) takes place at the same time.

Lacrosse playing brothers, Nathen and Jordon Waddell went head-to-head at a lacrosse game at the end of May, which resulted in a loss for the Olds Mavericks.
